Day 1: Depart UK to Amman. Upon arrival at Queen Alia Airport you will be transferred to your hotel for two nights.
Day 2: A morning city tour of Amman to include a visit to the Citadel and the Archaeological Museum then continue to visit Jerash an impressively well preserved Roman City which is known as the "Pompeii of the Middle East for its extraordinarily well-preserved Roman ruins. Walk beneath the Triumphal Arch and among the ruins of the Hippodrome and Temple of Zeus. In the afternoon visit Ajloun castle before returning your hotel in Amman.
Day 3: After breakfast depart to visit two of the Despoils cities Pella & Um Qais. Start the day at Pella a favourite of archaeologists - it is exceptionally rich in antiquities. Continue to Um Qais site of the famous Gadarene swine, it was renowned in its time as a cultural centre. Um Qais boasts an impressive colonnaded terrace and the ruins of two theatres. Continue on to visit Bethany beyond the Jordan River the area where Jesus Christ was baptized by John the Baptist. Overnight stay at a Dead Sea Hotel.
Day 4: After breakfast we head to Madaba, known for its spectacular Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics. The church of St. George houses the famous sixth-century mosaic map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. From here continue to Mount Nebo, where according to the Bible; Moses viewed the Promised Land which he would never enter. The tour continues south along the King's Highway to Petra, travelling along one of the oldest trade routes in the world. This historic highway take you through some of Jordan's most impressive scenery, following the eastern ridge of the Rift Valley and the Dead Sea ending up in Wadi Mousa (Petra) for a two night stay.
Day 5: Full day in Petra to explore the many wondrous sites of this Rose Red City. UNESCO has described Petra as "one of the precious cultural properties of man's cultural heritage". Major sites include the Treasury, the Temple of the Winged Lions, baths, markets, storerooms and tombs. (This tour involves walking over rough terrain. At Petra, visiting the Monastery and the High Place of Sacrifice requires a steep climb. Please not that Petra by Candlelight is not included in the price, as it only takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The cost of this excursion can be paid for locally if available whilst in Petra).Overnight at hotel.
Day 6: After breakfast, depart to Wadi Rum to enjoy Jordan's spectacular desert landscape steeped in the legend of Lawrence of Arabia and his Arab army. Experience the sandy desert on board 4x4 vehicles driven by the local Bedouins. The tour is around 2 hours. Afterwards continue to Aqaba on the Red Sea for a stay of two nights.
Day 7: Time to relax and enjoy the facilities of your hotel or take time to explore this ancient port.
Day 8: Depart after breakfast to Aqaba airport for the return flight via Amman to the UK.
